Eight years ago, Lakeside Painting held the first Lakeside Painting Open, a scramble tournament on Eagle Spring’s 9-hole golf course for employees, friends and family to enjoy a day of food, drink and fun. But in 2005 the tragedy of the Hurricane Katrina disaster inspired Lakeside Painting’s President Joe Pangburn to raise some money for the hurricane’s victims. Thus was born the Lakeside Painting Annual Benefit Open. The last four Opens benefited a number of causes, including Habitat for Humanity and Breast Cancer Research at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.
The 2010 Lakeside Painting’s 8th Annual Benefit Open will donate all proceeds to the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, which supports the foundations of St. Joseph’s, St. Francis, Elmbrook Memorial and Franklin hospitals.
The proceeds will support research into Vascular Diseases & Neurological Disorders, which touch all of us on a daily basis through: Blood Clots, Strokes, Cavernous Hemangiomas, Aneurysms, High-Blood Pressure and Blood Disorders, to name just a few.
This year’s Open is held in honor of Kody Pangburn and Warren & Betty Pangburn, and In Memory of Donald Smith and Jim Kau.
The Benefit Open will be held Saturday, Auguste 28th, 2010, rain or shine, at Eagle Springs Golf Resort, which is located at W352 S10355 Touhy Road, Eagle, WI 53119.

For nearly the last six years, Lakeside Painting’s office (and President Joe Pangburn’s truck) was brightened by the quirky and, we daresay, highly intelligent presence of Sasha the Airedale dog. Sasha was a regular fixture at the Lakeside office, occupying hallways, rooms, the shop floor, as well as a little corner nook that was outfitted with a high-quality doggy bed, upon which she passed several peaceful hours while Joe worked. She was also often found sleeping in odd positions with stuffed animals in her mouth. Sadly, Sasha passed away last month, leaving a big hole in the office and in the hearts of Lakeside’s employees.
Joe, always to be found in the company of the canine species, quickly brought home another Airedale puppy, which he and his wife Kim named Sylvie after much debate with family members. (Sylvie being the name of one of Lewis Carroll’s great fictional characters, Sylvie, from the novel Sylvie & Bruno.) The pup has revealed herself to be every bit as smart as Sasha while twice as stubborn and independent. Indeed, Sylvie is almost devilishly smart. Joe had very grand plans of quickly shaping Sylvie into a model pet, but she’s possessed of a rare talent for abstract thought and problem-solving abilities, which has put Joe and Kim on the defensive in training the pup.
That said, Sylvie really is a good puppy, and she loves to be around people and enjoys epic walks through town and country.

To further reduce exposure to lead paint, on Aprill 22, 2010 the Environmental Protection Agency will be enforcing a new federal law requiring all contractors “performing renovation, repair or painting projects that disturb lead based paint… to be certified and to follow specific work practices to prevent lead contamination.”
Lead paint is a highly toxic substance, particularly dangerous to the still-developing nervous systems of children as well to pregnant women. The first lead-based paint laws were enacted in 1978, banning their use in homes. In 1996, additional laws were implemented requiring information on the home be made available before purchase, rental or renovation of pre-1978 houses.
We here at Lakeside Painting, Inc.—serving the southeastern Wisconsin area—have always employed painters trained in the handling and removal of lead-based paint. Many contractors will try to avoid becoming certified as the process is expensive and detailed, therefore selecting the right company is critical and not a decision to be taken lightly. Lakeside Painting president and owner Joe Pangburn places great emphasis on safety and faithfulness to the law when handling and removing lead-based paints; which is why he himself is also EPA certified.

In Southeastern Wisconsin, one should always put great consideration into the painting company chosen for their next painting project. The wise homeowner or professional will ask him or herself, “What am I looking for in a painter?” Naturally, the quality of the work will undoubtedly stand first and foremost in the homeowner’s mind. This is as it should be. Selecting the right company is not only wise but also cost-effective. A bad paint job may not reveal itself immediately, though it certainly will with time. How can one make a more informed decision? Knowing the three distinct types of painting companies is instrumental in the decision-making process.
Lakeside Painting, Inc., believes there are three type of painters: the “bucket & brush painter, the average professional and the consummate professional.
Bucket and Brush Painter
This painter will typically arrive in rusted-out car and sees painting as a means to make a quick buck. For him painting is not so much a craft, but a task to be completed with as little dedication to quality and timeliness as possible without drawing attention to himself. The signs of such a painter can be found in the random paint drips on the floors, carpet and windows. The work will generally have a decent appearance, and his prices will be below the average. Attractive no doubt, but deceptive. However, he will not offer you a warranty; which is a big red flag.
The Average Professional
The Average Professional’s technique surpasses the Bucket & Brush painter, but his professionalism will be lacking. Such professionals will have a staff of painters but no company vehicles, uniformed painters, no employee background checks, safety program, current insurance, occasional tardiness on the job and lack of communication both on the job but also with regard to phone calls. This professional might not take into consideration your agenda when painting your project. Another problem that tends to arise according to customers is that of the change order: the estimate that suddenly changes from one coat to two coats, or the inclusion of something overlooked in the initial estimate. Suddenly, what had been the “cheaper” option has become more expensive in the end. Pay attention to an estimate that might seem cheaper and discuss change orders and details up front.
The Consummate Professional
This is the painting contractor that we would have you choose for your home or business. A true professional is detail-oriented and takes care to know every in and out of the job. This paint company will typically charge a bit more in the estimate but for all the right reasons. Change orders will be minimized. The work will be backed by a good warranty. High standards and honesty are placed at a premium within the consummate professional’s business. Relationships are key. Thus, the consummate professional thrives on excellent communication whether by phone or email. He will listen carefully to the requests and needs of the customer; troubleshoot problems and identify their solutions; and will get the job done with an amazing staff of background-checked painters dedicated to craft. Always keeping the safety of the customer’s property and his employees first and foremost at all times.
If you make your home in Southeastern Wisconsin, you probably have many options for your home or business painting project. Lakeside Painting, Inc., has been known for over thirty years for detailed orientated, quality craftsmanship in the field of painting. Let our superior estimators and painters serve you the next time your home or office requires work.
