Rene Cervantez Welcomes His Family Back!

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

Longtime Lakeside Painting employee, Rene Cervantez, has finally succeeded in bringing his entire family home after a trying ordeal with Mexican and American Immigration authorities.

Many years ago now, Rene had experienced what no husband and father should ever have to endure: the forced separation of his family across two countries. After the birth of his first child, his wife and baby were sent to Mexico, and Rene has been fighting ever since to bring them back.

The long, exhausting process finally ended, and Lakeside Painting celebrated Rene’s joy at a recent meeting.

We are happy to see that Rene and his family are finally together again and happy!

The Upside of Natural Light

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Many of us forget that the sun is one brilliant, moving singular source of cinematic light. Every minute brings a new angle to objects illuminated by that ball of churning hydrogen and helium.

Last year, interior designers and trend-spotters noticed the embrace of natural lighting in home and office. The trend continues in 2010 as people attempt to cut down on electrical bills and rediscover the visual joys of sunbeams.

If you are a homeowner or an owner of a business space, and you would like to bring in more natural light, think of how that light will strike the paint on your walls. Consider which colors will really bounce that light and which ones typically swallow or absorb it.

As we noted on our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/LakesidePainting), turquoise was Pantone’s color of 2010. And a color like Turquoise will shine brilliantly in the sunlight, whereas a color like brown will knock the light down a few stops.

Just a few thoughts for those of you embarking on new home projects that involve new colors and letting in more natural light.

2010 Painting & Interior Design Trends

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Did you know that many homeowners are painting the interiors of their homes the color of fruits (avocado green, grapefruit orange and pomegranate red)? These colors are especially great when used in kitchens, which in many ways are the home’s sanctuary.

An avocado green, for instance, will also give the kitchen (or any room, for that matter) a certain liveliness year round, even during the long winter months. And even though these colors might be best for a kitchen, don’t be afraid to use them for other rooms as well. Experiment.

Another recent trend finds homeowners scouring the internet (Ebay, Craigslist, etc.) for old ovens or refrigerators and refurbishing them to give the house a more lived-in feel or old-time charm. To cut down on the cost of refurbishing an entire old oven, freezer or fridge, people are also having the old hardware fixed to a newer appliance that is already in their home, for instance.

Just a few ideas for the day…

The 2010 Lakeside Painting 8th Annual Benefit Open

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Eight years ago, Lakeside Painting held the first Lakeside Painting Open, a scramble tournament on Eagle Spring’s 9-hole golf course for employees, friends and family to enjoy a day of food, drink and fun. But in 2005 the tragedy of the Hurricane Katrina disaster inspired Lakeside Painting’s President Joe Pangburn to raise some money for the hurricane’s victims. Thus was born the Lakeside Painting Annual Benefit Open. The last four Opens benefited a number of causes, including Habitat for Humanity and Breast Cancer Research at Waukesha Memorial Hospital.

The 2010 Lakeside Painting’s 8th Annual Benefit Open will donate all proceeds to the Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, which supports the foundations of St. Joseph’s, St. Francis, Elmbrook Memorial and Franklin hospitals.

The proceeds will support research into Vascular Diseases & Neurological Disorders, which touch all of us on a daily basis through: Blood Clots, Strokes, Cavernous Hemangiomas, Aneurysms, High-Blood Pressure and Blood Disorders, to name just a few.

This year’s Open is held In Memory of Donald Smith and Jim Kau, and In Honor of Warren & Betty Pangburn.

The Benefit Open will be held Saturday, Auguste 28th, 2010, rain or shine, at Eagle Springs Golf Resort, which is located at W352 S10355 Touhy Road, Eagle, WI 53119.

Lakeside Painting’s New Mascot

Monday, July 26th, 2010

For nearly the last six years, Lakeside Painting’s office (and President Joe Pangburn’s truck) was brightened by the quirky and, we daresay, highly intelligent presence of Sasha the Airedale dog. Sasha was a regular fixture at the Lakeside office, occupying hallways, rooms, the shop floor, as well as a little corner nook that was outfitted with a high-quality doggy bed, upon which she passed several peaceful hours while Joe worked. She was also often found sleeping in odd positions with stuffed animals in her mouth. Sadly, Sasha passed away last month, leaving a big hole in the office and in the hearts of Lakeside’s employees.

Joe, always to be found in the company of the canine species, quickly brought home another Airedale puppy, which he and his wife Kim named Sylvie after much debate with family members. (Sylvie being the name of one of Lewis Carroll’s great fictional characters, Sylvie, from the novel Sylvie & Bruno.) The pup has revealed herself to be every bit as smart as Sasha while twice as stubborn and independent. Indeed, Sylvie is almost devilishly smart. Joe had very grand plans of quickly shaping Sylvie into a model pet, but she’s possessed of a rare talent for abstract thought and problem-solving abilities, which has put Joe and Kim on the defensive in training the pup.

That said, Sylvie really is a good puppy, and she loves to be around people and enjoys epic walks through town and country.
